Digitising golf operations with grant funding: here’s how it could work
It is undisputed within the golf management sector that the ongoing and necessary digitalisation of golf operations will be one of the challenges of the coming years. However, the high investment costs often deter golf courses from investing in digital solutions. State or local government grants can help both golf clubs and associations organised as non-profit organisations, as well as commercially run golf courses, to ease the burden of investment.
For registered associations with charitable status, it is worth enquiring with the federal state where the association is based to find out whether the relevant state or local authority provides funding for digitalisation within the association or for voluntary work in general. It is often the case that a contribution towards the investment is required to receive a grant, but depending on the programme, the grant can be substantial – in some cases even significantly more than the own funds contributed.

For golf courses organised as businesses – for example, legal entities such as limited liability companies (GmbHs), limited partnerships (GmbH & Co. KGs), public limited companies (Aktiengesellschaften) and others – the first point of contact should be the Chamber of Industry and Commerce responsible for the golf course. Many of the 79 Chambers of Industry and Commerce across Germany offer digital funding programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises within their jurisdiction.
