Actually, it should go without saying that "123456" is not a password that should be used. Nevertheless, the evaluation of past hacks in the IT world has shown that many people set such easy-to-guess combinations as passwords. We would like to give you 5 quick tips for good passwords:
- Passwords should never be the same as your username, first or last name, date of birth or other personal information.
- Use a complex password. The longer and more complex a password is, the more secure it is against attacks. Mix numbers with small and capital letters and - if allowed - special characters. A good password has at least 12 characters, ideally more.
- Use one password for one account. Admittedly: this increases the additional effort. But if one of your accesses should be cracked, the other accesses secured with different passwords are still protected.
- Randomly generated passwords are always superior to made-up passwords. Today, hackers' algorithms are already very sophisticated and "translate" terms into common passwords and attack, for example, "password1234" as well as "Pa33wort!2e4".
- Store your passwords securely. The Post-it on the computer monitor with written down access data are just as nonsensical as saving them unencrypted on the hard disk.
